MPBA Announces Annual Car Show

by Barbara C. Barrett , The Luminary

MUNCY – This month’s meeting for the Muncy Professional Business Association brought new members to the table, positive feedback on July’s 4th Friday event, and progress on September’s annual Corvettes on Main Street Show.

Mark Cormier, Store Manager for Bastian Tires gave out VIP discount cards to the members and offered assistance with the upcoming Corvette show. Two representatives from State Farm Insurance in Muncy also came and wanted to be more involved in the organization.

Sandy Putney reported a corn husking event for Muncy 4th Friday on August 23 and the Muncy Library will have on display yearbooks from the 1940’s up to the present. The street will be closed again for the vendors, but will not be closed for the September and October events due to the car show and Halloween Parade when the section of Main Street will be closed already for those events. “Having the dime pitch from the Muncy Fire Department in the middle of the street was a real draw,” said Putney. “And people enjoy dancing in the street. We have been averaging about 17 to 20 vendors a month.”

Additional sponsors are needed for the sixth annual Corvette Show according to chair, Wayne McPheron. Over 200 pre-registrations were sent out, and the aCorvette Club’s proceeds will be benefitting the American Cancer Society. Last year nearly 130 cars were registered, and up to 10,000 visitors attended, some even as far as Delaware, New Jersey and Delaware.

A $2500 grant was acquired from the Lycoming County Visitors Bureau and Chamber of Commerce to help advertise the event outside the area. Chris Johnson from Brickyard Advertising said that they will be reaching out to the Harrisburg region, possibly utilizing electronic billboard sand different area Visitor’s Guides.

The show is scheduled for Saturday, September 21st. Students from the Muncy FBLA will be assisting with the event which will also includes a collective gathering of local artisans, food, entertainment and lots of kids’ activities. Free admission from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine.

The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 5 at Orlando’s Deli on Main Street, Muncy.
